Meet Sarah

Hey friends! I’m so glad you found my website! This is the place where I keep you up to date on my writing, speaking, and other happenings. And I love to give away FREE stuff to my subscribers. Yay!

I’ve been writing since childhood, and love to write Inspirational Romance on the fiction side of things and explore my faith on the nonfiction side.

My Inspirational Romance novel was a finalist in its division in the MARA Fiction from the Heartland Contest in 2016 in the unpublished category and I won second place in my division in the Valley of the Sun’s Hot Prospects Contest 2016.

My passion is to help others become inspired by the Word of God and to see real-life change happening in their lives as a result of the Holy Spirit speaking into their lives. It’s my prayer that you find encouragement, renewal and joy through Jesus.

ABOUT SARAH

If you hang around for a while, you’ll find that I love all things gardening, making lists, and redecorating my house, not to mention that I am obsessed with tea, and I’m a recovering Type-A Perfectionist.  Here are some random things in no particular order about me…

A. I’VE TAUGHT FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS

It’s true. And very hard to believe I’ve taught for that long! Does that make me old? It feels old writing that out. TWENTY YEARS… yikes. Anyway, I’ve taught kids all the way up to adults. I’ve led women’s Bible Studies, taught children from babies to kids, and served as Youth Minister many, many moons ago in a startup church.

Aside from teaching at church, I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Studio Arts, and taught 2nd grade at a local private school before leaving to teach art lessons from home.

Currently, my husband and I teach Kindergarten at our church and have for several years.

Oh, and I also homeschool our 3 kiddos.

B. I HAVE AN ENTIRE CUPBOARD IN MY KITCHEN DEDICATED TO TEA

I’m not afraid to admit I might have a slight problem. I see tea that looks yummy and I buy it. My goal for the year is to reorganize my tea cabinet. It’s not so good when you open the door and tea boxes fall out! Also, I love, love, love chai, but hate green tea. Ick.

I love honey and half-and-half in my tea. It’s my only vice.

My dream is to go to one day go to a fancy high-tea in England…complete with cute little finger sandwiches, tiny desserts, and pretty tea cups.

I’ve also got a Pinterest board dedicated to tea. And what on earth did we do before Pinterest? Sheesh. That place is addictive!

C. I GROW MORE SQUASH BUGS THAN SQUASH

I’ve gardened for a number of years and am the only Southerner I know who cannot grow cucumbers. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. But I can grow beds of lovely 8′ sunflowers complete with an infestation of squash bugs…AKA stink bugs. Ugh. But the sunflowers sure are pretty!

My favorite annuals to grow are zinnias. A couple years ago I planted 2,000 in the spring. Most came up. It was amazing! Last year I did the same thing, but only about 50 came up. Boo!  I’m planning on growing 3,000 this year, but I’ll amend the soil with compost first.

Chances are you’ll see a lot of posts about gardening. Or perhaps the gnomes…Mr. Gigglebottom, Bertha, and George. They’re pretty cool. And obviously one was named by my kids. 🙂

D. I HAVE SOME STRANGE QUIRKS…AS POINTED OUT BY MY KIDS AND HUSBAND

I’m sure I drive everyone around me crazy. Sometimes I drive myself crazy too.

I can’t stand loud noises…to the point of it avoiding them at all costs and carrying earplugs in my purse. I think that goes back to having so many ear infections as a child. Seriously painful. *shivers* I use way too many exclamation points! Gosh!! Many times when I notice that I’m saying a word too much, like umm I end up saying it like, um 5,489 more times than normal. And it drives me bonkers! I order the same thing at restaurants because I like what I like and I’m afraid of being disappointed if I try something new…and yet I really love trying new foods. I carry band aids with me everywhere. You never know when you might rub a blister on your heel or if you cut yourself. Or if someone else needs one. I quote Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite constantly and also Psych. And last…I have a hard time getting out of the zone and stopping what I’m doing until I finish it. Which drives my family up the wall.

E. I MET MY HUSBAND AT A NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY

Yes. I did. At an event for couples. Jason and I were the only single ones there. Set up anyone? I think it turned out pretty darn good even if I do say so myself.

Way, way back when we were both young, I was thin and naturally a brunette, and Jason still had hair. Taking a selfie with a point and shoot is harder than it looks.

F. I AM SLIGHTLY COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH FARMS AND HOMESTEADING

Check out my Pinterest board and you’ll see. *smiles* Most of my books have settings of small towns, rural, farms, etc. and I love it. And yet I am terrified of chickens. Guess I better get over that fear once we live out our dream of owning land one day. Ha!

G. I STARTED GOING GRAY IN MY EARLY 20’s

At first it was just a few hairs here and there. Then a few more. Then more. And then the full on white streaks came. Subsequently I decided to take the plunge and color my hair. I’ve been every shade of brown known to man, a redhead, back to brown, then I let my hair grow completely out so I could see what was under there, and now I’ve got heavy blonde highlights in my natural color with the white showing through as an ultra bright highlight. My hairstylist is a genius.

H. I’M UNPUBLISHED…AS OF YET

I’ve only been seriously seeking publication for a little over a year. I was able to attend the ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) conference in August of 2016 and met with agents and editors. It was amazing!!!  In 2016 I wrote one full length novel, started three more, and have another novel 60% completed. Aside from that I work with other writers in editing their work, and one writer I worked with went on to publish his article in a local magazine.

In the coming year I’ll be writing devotionals, working on my books, and creating more great content for this website. I’m hoping to enter more contests in the year to come.

Fact: I started blogging way back in…2005…when blogging was just a weird thing most people had never heard of…Blog? what the heck’s that?!? After a series of events where I received death threats and was stalked and cyber-bullied we made the decision to pull the plug on my online writing and blogging to keep our family and me safe.

But the writing bug wouldn’t go away and I felt God calling me back to blogging and social media…this year. It was a long hiatus. Whew.

I. SPEAKING

I managed to graduate high school without taking a required public speaking class because I was terrified of public speaking. oops.

Then six years ago God gave me a vision of speaking in front of large and small groups of people. I laughed. God did not. 5 years, two more kids added to the bunch, and a crazy life…God has renewed that calling and has provided opportunities. He’s so amazing. And I’m actually excited about it. Go figure!

J. I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT HELPING OTHERS

I love, love, love helping others see their self-worth in God. I just want everyone to know how valued they are for WHO they are. And I hope you feel like you can be your true self around here.

As a way to encourage folks I regularly send subscribers freebies and keep my blog as updated as possible with encouraging content.
