In my last post I introduced you to a new series I’m super excited to start. Well, today is our first official day! Yay!
I love, love, love learning. I try to learn one new thing at least every day. I thought it would be fun if we took a look at some Bible study methods floating around out there and used them to study the Bible together. If you already have passages that you read, then just apply each week’s method to what you’re already doing. If you don’t have a passage, just follow along with the passages I provide. And please, let me know how the study method worked for you.
So let’s get started!
Today’s method is called the SOAP method.
This method has been around for a long time, and I’m not even sure who started it. The basic idea is to focus your reading and applying it to your everyday life. Sounds good, right?
Here’s an snazzy little infographic I made for you.
You can see that this method is very easy to follow. Read your Scripture and write down any verse that pops out at you. Observe the special message God spoke to you or that you see as you read. Apply it to your life. Pray over the Scripture asking for insight and understanding. The infographic does a good job explaining it.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
12 Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all offenses.
13 On the lips of him who has understanding, wisdom is found,
but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense.
Here’s a printable I’d like to share with you. You can do the SOAP method anywhere! Just click on the picture and you can print it out.
Blessings and joy,
So how did the SOAP method work for you?
