In the Garden…Garden Chores…December

gardenchores_december_blogWell, it’s no secret to those who know me that I’m a little, ahem, obsessed with gardening. I’m not saying that I’m great at it, but it is something that inspires me and provides a ton of relaxation and satisfaction, and let’s face it– as a homeschooling mom of three with little time for myself I could use all the relaxation I can get!
December in the South is a strange beast. Some years it’s not too chilly and other years it’s down right cold…at least for these parts! This weekend is verging on down right cold.

So, this month might have the easiest gardening chores ever. Here’s what I’ll be doing.
  • Pulling the rest of the zinnia stalks out after we finally had a hard freeze. Until a few weeks ago those babies were still putting out flowers!
  • Bringing in Mr. Gigglebottom, Bertha, and George…my garden gnomes
  • Filling up the bird feeders
  • tearing out the old plants that finally died and storing their pots
And that’s pretty much it. I’ll be counting down the days until the next wave of gardening catalogues comes in the mail and then I’ll pour over them and start planning for next year’s garden.
Until then, hope you stay warm curled up inside with your seed catalogues and steaming mug of chai or hot chocolate!
What are your garden goals for the next year?
Do you do any garden chores in the winter?
Drop me a line in the comments! I’d love to hear from you!
